With peace returning to violence-hit areas of Punjab, day curfew was lifted for the second day in Jalandhar, Phagwara, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana and Malout.

Curfew was imposed in the five areas on Monday after violence sparked by the killing of a sect leader in Vienna.

Officials said there was complete peace in the state and no untoward incident has been reported. Trains and buses were also operating as usual.

The situation in neighbouring Haryana, which was also hit by violence, was also normal with no untoward incident reported from any of the areas.

Punjab witnessed large-scale violence and arson after followers of Sikh religious sect Dera Sachkhand Ballan took to the streets on Sunday night in protest against the attack on their leaders in a Vienna Gurudwara.
