Providing relief, manufacturers and importers of electronic items have been given three months more to get compulsory government clearance to sell goods.
The government has extended the deadline of Requirement for Compulsory Registration Order for the third time by three months to January 3, 2014.
"Considering that some manufacturers and importers have not yet received registration numbers from Bureau of Indian Standards, the Department of Electronics and IT (DEITY) had put in place an interim mechanism...," an official release said today.

DEITY is providing provisional clearance to manufacturers and importers to sell goods and obtain registration up to October 3, 2013.
In a review meeting held on September 26, 2013, the facility for provisional clearance has been extended by DEITY till January 3, 2014, it added.
Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012 had come into effect on July 3, 2013 which mandates compliance to Indian safety standards for 15 notified categories of electronic goods.
These electronic goods are video games, laptop/ notebook/ tablets, plasma/LCD/LED TVs, optical disc players, printers, electronic music systems, Set Top Box, among others.
"DEITY has clarified that this extension is now available only to manufacturing units that submit their products for testing to BIS recognised labs as per the provision of the Compulsory Registration Scheme," it said.
The extension would help electronic makers obtain the clerances on time and meet festival season demand.
To facilitate smooth implementation, the labelling of the registered products has also been allowed for the time being at the warehouses of the importers/manufacturers, it added.
