The government has placed as many as 355 foreign employers (FEs) who are found to be harassing Indian workers under the Prior Approval Category (PAC), Rajya Sabha was informed today.
Replying to a question, Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi said the ministry receives, from time to time, complaints regarding fraudulent offers of overseas employment and cheating job seekers, including recruitment on behalf of dubious employers.
These complaints have been received against Registered Recruiting Agents, unauthorised intermediaries as well as some foreign employers, the minister said, adding in case of Registered Recruiting Agents (RA), a show cause notice is issued and comments on office concerned of Protector of Emigrants is called for.
During 2008, action on 118 cases against RAs have been initiated for offences committed under the Emigration Act, he added. Action on 93 cases against unregistered and unauthorised agents have also been initiated under the Act.
The Minister said "as on today, 355 FEs are placed under Prior Approval Category List" for harassing the Indian workers.
