Govt to haul 275 IAS for not filing returns

The government has decided to proceed against 275 IAS officers who have failed to submit details of their property returns by the deadline of January 31 this year.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has written to concerned ministries in this regard.

The officers who have not submitted their Immovable Property Returns (IPR) for 2009 and 2010 are at the level of director, under secretaries and deputy secretaries.

Out of the total, a highest of 38 are from Home Ministry followed by 37 from Health Ministry, 24 from Defence Ministry, 17 from Union Public Service Commission and nine from Department of Agriculture and Cooperation among others.

 

Interestingly, two officers working with DoPT also figure in the list posted on its website.

There are in all 4,356 IAS officers working in different Central and State government departments.

"Ministries/Departments are well aware that the IPR in respect of Central Secretariat Service Officers (Under Secretary and above level) are required to be furnished to this Division by January 31 of every year.

"However, despite repeated reminders the IPR for the year 2009 which was to be received by this Division by January 31, 2010 and IPR for the year 2010 which was to be received in this Division by January 31, 2011 have not yet been received in respect of large number of officers," fourth reminder by DoPT said.

"It is also requested that appropriate action be taken in case of officers who failed to submit the IPRs despite repeated reminders. It may also be ensured that appropriate entry regarding late submission/non submission of IPRs should be made in the relevant Annual Performance Assessment Reports (APARs) of the concerned officers," it added.

Besides, two officers each from Central Bureau of Investigation, Central Information Commission, Central Vigilance Commission and Central Water Commission among others also figure in the defaulters list.
