The Gujarat Government is going to spend an amount as high as Rs 9,000 crore this year itself for construction of Narmada canal network. As a part of this it was the turn of the Morbi Branch Canal to be inaugurated on Monday by the Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, who laid the foundation stone for the two major works costing Rs 320 crores for this branch canal being constructed under the Sardar Sarovar Project.
Tenders for remaining works of the branch canal and ancillary distribution network with an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore have already been invited & under consideration. These works are also expected to commence in due course.
“People of Saurashtra and Kutch know the real value of water, as farmers of these regions really need water and not electricity to tap the potential of their fields. To make this happen, Gujarat Government is going to spend an amount as high as Rs 9,000 crore this year itself for construction of Narmada canal network,” Modi said while addressing the function at Trajpar after the inaugural ceremony.
