The Himachal Pradesh government on Friday decided to allot 200 acres in Bilaspur to set up its first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

State Health Minister Kaul Singh had met the former Union health minister Harsh Vardhan few months ago and was assured of an AIIMS if the state government provided land. New Union Health Minister J P Nadda hails from Bilaspur.

The Union Budget this year had also announced the first Indian Institute of Management (IIM) for Himachal. The state government has already decided to provide land for IIM in Dhaula Kuan of Sirmaur district.

The Cabinet also decided to revise the service length of the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) teachers from eight to seven years.

Now their services will be taken on contract basis after they complete seven years of continuous service instead of eight year.

There are over 6,300 PTA teachers in the state. They have been protesting in recent years asking for their services to be regularised.

PTA teachers are appointed by parents and teachers associations to teach in schools and colleges.
