India may okay FDI from Bangladesh

Press Trust Of India Kolkata
Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh said India might consider allowing foreign direct investment from Bangladesh to foster greater economic ties.

He said he favoured opening up FDI from Bangladesh on a case-to-case basis to improve economic ties

"If Bangladesh allows investment from India, we should also reciprocate," he said.

At present, FDI from Bangladesh and Pakistan is banned in India due to political reasons.

"Trade and economic ties between the two countries will help strengthen secularism in Bangladesh," he added.

The Tatas have expressed their intention to invest $3 billion in Bangladesh in a few projects, which is being looked upon as a major initiative to foster greater trade ties between the two countries.
