India may okay FDI from Bangladesh

| Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh said India might consider allowing foreign direct investment from Bangladesh to foster greater economic ties. |
| He said he favoured opening up FDI from Bangladesh on a case-to-case basis to improve economic ties |
| "If Bangladesh allows investment from India, we should also reciprocate," he said. |
| At present, FDI from Bangladesh and Pakistan is banned in India due to political reasons. |
| "Trade and economic ties between the two countries will help strengthen secularism in Bangladesh," he added. |
| The Tatas have expressed their intention to invest $3 billion in Bangladesh in a few projects, which is being looked upon as a major initiative to foster greater trade ties between the two countries. |
