As India's GDP growth slipped to a nine-year low of 6.5 per cent in 2011-12, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi today charged the UPA Government with "policy paralysis". In such a situation, even Gujarat may not be able to sustain its high growth for long, he told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia to fix the state’s annual plan. "The country’s GDP is a matter of concern. Prime Minister said three months ago that the GDP growth would be seven per cent (in 2011-12) and then he reiterated it in the Rajya Sabha as well. The latest figures suggest that the government didn’t know what was going on for so long." He said three issues, a slowdown in the economic growth rate, depreciation of the rupee against the dollar and high inflation faced by the economy are a matter of concern.
