Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, reportedly asked Bharatiya Janta Party MPs not to divert from the government's agenda of development and good governance and desist from providing the opposition an opportunity to create hurdles. He asked MPs not to cross the 'Lakshman Rekha' in their public statements.
"Our party agenda is development and good governance and we should not dither in it. We will not allow dilution or deviation from our commitment," the Prime Minister told MPs at the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting, sources said. The remark comes in the wake of recent statements by BJP MPs like Sakshi Maharaj and Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti.
Modi also asked party MPs about the government's plans to mark December 25 as the 'Good Governance' day, which is also the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. "Atalji's birthday is a day of pride for us. The recognition of BJP is with good governance, which is through fine and effective policies and programmes," the Prime Minister said at the meeting.
