The Madhya pradesh government on Tuesday came down heavily on the Centre for lingering on maintenance of 10 national highways that pass through the state.
“These are prime highways and connect the state with Maharashtra and Rajasthan, but the Central government has adopted a callous attitude towards commoners,” a government spokesperson said, adding, “On Tuesday, the state Cabinet has decided to press for its demand to ‘denotify’ all these prime highways.”
“Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will meet the surface transport minister and will apprise him of the condition of the highways and sufferings of the commoner,” the spokesperson said.
The state government has also decided to return lands acquired from more than 400 villagers for the Tons river (Satna) project. “Approximately 900 hectares of land will be returned to farmers. However the dam’s height will remain 280 metres,” the spokesperson said.
Some highways which are in bad shape are Gwalior-Dewas (NH3), Rewa-Seoni-Jabalpur-Katni (NH7), Jabalpur-Bhopal (NH12), Biaora-Rajasthan border (NH12), Jabalpur-Mandla-Chilpi (NH 12A), Indore-Betul (NH 59A), and Obedullaganj-Hoshangabad-Betul-Sawner (NH 69).
