The government today said it will come out with two more series of consumer price inflation indices from January to truly reflect the impact of price rise on consumption pattern of households in urban and rural areas.

"The CPI (consumer price index) data which we are going to release...Is going to be in addition to whatever is released already. The committed date for that is January 2011," Chief Statistician TCA Anant told reporters on the sidelines of an Exim Bank award function here today.

Anant further said the two new series--CPI urban and CPI rural--will be based on consumption pattern revealed in the National Sample Survey for urban and rural consumers.

"There are two series being generated. One is CPI-Urban and the other is CPI-Rural. This basket of commodities is based on the pattern of consumption revealed in the National Sample Survey for urban and rural consumers," he said, adding the base year of computation of the new CPI series will be 2004-05.

Currently, there are four CPI inflation series--CPI for industrial workers, CPI for agricultural labourers, CPI for rural labourers and CPI for urban non-manual employees.

Anant further said the revised series of index of industrial production will be released soon as the work for compiling it over. "The work (on new industrial production data) is in advanced stage. We expect it to be completed soon," he added.
