Aptly named "Dial-a-ticket", the railways are currently running a trial of the service, which shall be launched soon.
"A trial is going on as we want to make it a fool-proof arrangement by addressing the loopholes, if any, before launching the service," said a senior Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) official.
"The aim is to shorten the queue at the ticket windows. Once operational, this will be a big step towards providing tickets at doorsteps as value-added facilities to railway passengers across the country," the official said.
About the mode of payment, the official said initially a caller has to make payment through cash card and later, credit card payment facilities are likely to be added.
