Swine flu cases rise to 33 in Gujarat

Swine flu cases in Gujarat today rose to 33, while Saurashtra, the region unaffected by the deadly virus until now, has reported suspected patients.

Two persons, including an NRI, have succumbed to H1N1 virus in the state since the outbreak of the disease.

Five fresh H1N1 cases were reported today. Of the total positive cases, 24 are from Ahmedabad, 5 from Surat, 3 from Vadodara and one from Kandla in Kutch, health officials said.

"As on today, 33 persons have tested positive in the state including the two who died. The number of suspected cases has gone up to 196, as the new suspected cases have been reported from Rajkot, Kandla, Jamnagar, Himatnagar and Bhavnagar," Principal Secretary, Health, Ravi Saxena told PTI.

 

The districts come under Saurashtra.

So far, 94 samples have tested negative, while reports were awaited in 69 other cases, he said.

"Blood samples of the suspected cases have been sent for testing and results are awaited in 69 cases - 30 in Surat, 19 in Vadodara, 14 in Ahmedabad, 3 in Rajkot and one each in Jamnagar, Bhavnagar and Himatnagar," Saxena said.

Currently, 39 patients including some suspected ones, are undergoing treatment in hospitals. Of these, 30 are in Ahmedabad, 8 in Vadodara and one in Surat, he said.
