This is in line with the Centre's plans to achieve 20 Gw of installed capacity in solar power in the span of five years. The state has an installed capacity of 1,702.40 Mw of solar energy, out of 10,479.61 Mw of renewable energy capacity as on May 31, 2017.
In the RFP document, the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) said that it is looking to select SPPDs for developing the solar park in the state.
It has invited expressions of interest from national and international companies, or any consortium thereof, interested in the establishment of a 500-Mw solar power park in Tamil Nadu under the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy's scheme for development of solar parks and ultra mega solar power projects.
In continuation of the response received, TEDA intends to call for proposals from national and international companies interested in setting up a solar park in Tamil Nadu strictly in accordance with the guidelines.
The 500-Mw solar park will have to be set-up on a contiguous piece of land in any part of Tamil Nadu having solar irradiance ranging from 5-6 kWh per meter square a day throughout the year.
The extent of land required to set up a 500 Mw capacity solar park is expected to be 2,500 acres. The entire extent of land has to be acquired by the successful SPPD either on freehold ownership or on leased land basis.
The SPPD will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the solar park for a period of 25 years.
The state government on Thursday said that the state-owned power generation company is setting up a 500-Mw ultra mega solar photovoltaic power park at the cost of Rs 2,350 crore.
