The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) issued a press statement today morning on behalf of chartered accountant and key Narendra Modi aide Parindu Bhagat to explain the difference of Rs 14.34 lakh between Modi’s affidavits filed in Vadodara and Varanasi.
Bhagat claimed the increase was because the party had transferred the money to Modi’s bank accounts towards his election expenses in the interregnum of filing of the two affidavits.
The affidavit Modi filed on Thursday as part of his nomination to contest as a BJP candidate from Varanasi showed an increase of Rs 14.34 lakh in his bank balance from the affidavit filed in Vadodara on April 9.

A BJP press statement issued today stated that the Vadodara affidavit was prepared on April 6 while the Varanasi one on April 21. The only difference in the two affidavits is in the increase of Rs 14.34 lakh in the Varanasi affidavit.
The statement claimed that Modi’s bank balance, when the affidavit was prepared for Vadodara, was Rs 11, 74,394. The bank balance increased to Rs 26, 05,394 by the time the Varanasi affidavit was filed. This resulted in an increase of Rs 14, 31,000.
This, Bhagat said, was because the BJP had transferred that amount to Modi's Vadodara bank account for his election expenses in Varanasi.
“The reason for the same is amount transferred in his election bank account from the party (BJP) in Vadodara account and balance of his dedicated bank account for the election at Varanasi,” Bhagat said in the statement. The chartered accountant attributed the difference of Rs 3,000 in cash balance to routine cash flows.
In his immovable assets, Modi has disclosed ownership in a residential plot in Gandhinagar with current market value of Rs 1 crore.
