Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Tariq Hamid Qarra today filed nomination papers from Srinagar Lok Sabha seat in Kashmir which will go to polls on April 30.

Qarra, the former finance minister of Jammu and Kashmir, was accompanied by PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to the office of Returning Officer and deputy commissioner Sriangar Farooq Ahmad Shah.

Sayeed told reporters that if elected, PDP candidates will raise the voice of oppression on the youth of the state in the Parliament.

Sayeed said his party had done a lot for Srinagar when it came in power in 2002.

"We have written a new chapter in the history of Jammu and Kashmir in 2002. No youth was jailed and no political prisoner was seen anywhere. We tried to carry forward a process of peace to normalise the situation here.

"We are going to the people to get their confidence. We have put our best foot forward and are hopeful of good results. There is an environment of change in the state," he said.

He said he does not want to foretell what the results would be.

"I do not want to foretell anything. I tried to make Srinagar city as Venice. This is a historical city and we had an all-round development here. What has this government done?" he said.
