A three-Member Australian Parliamentary Delegation comprising Ms. Suzanne Marry Ellery, MLC, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Shadow Minister for Education, Children Interest, Mr Benjamin Sana Wyatt, MLA, Shadow Treasurer, Shadow Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Ms Rita Saffioti, MLA, Shadow Minister for Planning, Finance, Government Accountability, Women's Interests called on Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram here today.
The purpose of the meeting was to share expertise and develop stronger linkages between India and Australia on issues pertaining to the Tribal and Indigenous population. Views on welfare and development of tribal communities were exchanged. Shri Oram explained constitutional and statutory safeguards available to the Tribal people. He also gave an account of programmes and processes of Tribal development in the country. The Australian delegation appreciated the efforts of the Tribal Affairs Ministry in the upliftment and welfare of Tribals in the country.
