HC extends CBI custody of Sebi DGM

The Central Bureau of Investigation has taken Sebi DGM Avarjeet Singh, accused in a bribery case, into a four-day custody, following a Gujarat High Court order. Justice R H Shukla, while hearing a petition filed by the central agency, set aside a lower court order which denied further custody of Singh. Singh and his aide, Ashok Mehta, were arrested by the CBI from Delhi and Ahmedabad, respectively, on June 1. The arrest was based on a complaint by an Ahmedabad-based trader who was barred from trading by Sebi in September 2011 for alleged market manipulation using GDRs.
