			The markets have had a big-bang opening ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as India&rsquo;s 15th Prime Minister. The Sensex seems poised to re-test the 25,000 mark (scaled in intra-day trades post the electoral result declaration on May 16) at 24,987, up 305 points or 1.4% and the Nifty is at 7444, up 76 points. The broader markets have also risen in tandem with their largecap counterparts; the midcap index has jumped 79 points or 0.9% at 8748 and the smallcap index has gained at 104 points or 1.1% at 9232.</div>

			The benchmark indices had galloped to new closing peaks on Friday, logging their best single-day rise in 10 days. The Sensex had ended at a new historic closing high of 24,693 and the Nifty had concluded at 7,367. For the week ended Friday, the Sensex had garnered 571 points or 2.3% and Nifty had gained 164 points or 2.2%, while the mid-cap index surged 11.6% and the small-cap index jumped 15%.</div>

			The new week promises to be action-packed, what with Modi&#39;s assumption to office in the evening and cabinet formation scheduled thereafter. The impending derivatives expiry on Thursday, and the resultant pick-up in rollover activity, may however result in that tinge of volatility later in the week.</div>

			On the global front, Asian stocks have risen in early trades after the S&amp;P 500 closed at a record high on Friday and as geopolitical risks faded following a victory for billionaire Petro Poroshenko in Ukrainian elections. China&#39;s Shanghai Composite was up six points to 2,040 and Hang Seng climbed 86 points to 23,052. Nikkei 225 Average rose 109 points to 14,571 and Straits Times advanced 11 points to 3,289. Taiwan Weighted gained 40 points to 9,049, while South Seoul Composite fell two points to 2,014.</div>

			A better-than-expected April home sales report saw US stocks gain for a third day on Friday, with the S&amp;P 500 closing above 1,900 points for the first time ever. The Dow Jones gained 63 points to end at 16,606, the S&amp;P 500 gained 8 points to end at 1,900 and the Nasdaq ended up 31 points at 4,186.</div>

			NTPC is trading at a 52-week high of Rs 166 to lead the gainer&#39;s list on the BSE. The country&#39;s largest power generation firm by capacity NTPC had galloped 21.62% to Rs 160 in the previous week. Capital goods are having a good session, with L&amp;T gaining 2.4% at Rs 1549 and BHEL adding 1.3% at Rs 276. Banking stocks are also in the limelight, with ICICI Bank adding 1.7% at Rs 1485 and SBI extending its stellar gains of 10% on Friday by adding another 1.3% at Rs 2793.</div>

			Select pharma stocks are bucking the firm trend. Dr Reddy&#39;s has weakened by 0.6% at Rs 2291 to top ther loser&#39;s list bon the BSE and Cipla is trading flat, with a negative bias, at Rs 386.</div>

			The market breadth is strong. Out of 1492 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1273 advancing stocks as against 185 declines.</div>
