In futures trading, turmeric prices fell by Rs 172, or 1.28 per cent, to Rs 13,240 per 100 kg, as speculators reduced their positions following a decline in spot demand amid prospects of higher production.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange counter, turmeric for delivery in September contract traded Rs 172, or 1.28 per cent lower, at Rs 13,240 per 100 kg, with an open interest of 5,645 lots.
The delivery in October contract for spice also fell by Rs 126, or 0.97 per cent, to Rs 12,874 per 100 kg, with an open interest of 880 lots.
In Nizamabad, a major spot market in Andhra Pradesh turmeric fell by Rs 280, to Rs 14,620 per 100 kg in yesterday's trade.
Analysts said offloading of positions by speculators followed by a fall in spot demand and higher production prospects continued to put pressure on the turmeric futures.
