Describing the Islamic State (IS) as a death cult with 'far-reaching tentacles', Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has called on the Asia Pacific nations to battle the jihadist group.

At a conference in Sydney on countering terrorist propaganda, he remarked that the terror outfit has global ambitions, reported the BBC.

More than 100 Australian citizens are fighting along with the jihadists in Syria and Iraq.

The Pacific nation had last year raised its threat level to high and conducted a series of counter-terrorism raids to diffuse the threat posed by the terror group.
