Steve Smith's brilliant century has helped Australia hold a commanding 374-run lead at stumps on the second day of the fifth and final Ashes Test against England at the Kennington Oval on Friday.

Resuming to an overnight position of 287-3, Australia were all out at 481 in their first innings, thanks to Steve Smith for his 143 and opener David Warner for his 85.

Adam Voges (76) and Mitchell Starc (58) were other notable figures for the tourists.

In reply, England were crumbled meekly to 107 for eight at stumps, with Mark Wood and Moeen Ali were at the crease with unbeaten 8 and 8 respectively.

From Australian side, Mitchell Marsh claimed three wickets for just 18 runs.

Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon also took two wickets each.

Earlier, after winning the toss, England skipper Alastair Cook opted to bowl first on a track that had a greenish tinge to it and was supposed to assist the fast bowlers.
