Claiming victory over the political throne of Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday seemed in an elated mood, and with confidence asserted that the same would be repeated in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Content with the people's mandate, BJP UP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya said Uttar Pradesh has witnessed the Modi wave at a much higher tide from that of 2014.

"We will repeat 2017 in 2019. 2019 will also see the Modi wave," Maurya told the media while celebrating at the Lucknow party headquarters.

Applauding his party's exemplary performance in the assembly elections, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's son and BJP leader Pankaj Singh said they were always sure about their victory in the state.

"We always maintained that we would secure seats somewhere between 250-300. The Samajwadi Party has created a hill of problems here. The BJP's performance has been exemplary," Singh told ANI.

The early trends in the assembly election show the BJP leading in 292 seats in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party 59 seats, the Congress in 11, while Mayawati-led Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) ahead in 18 seats.

Uttar Pradesh went to polls in seven phases in the months of February and March.

A total of 4,854 candidates are in fray for 403 assembly constituencies.
