Brittany Maynard's husband Dan Diaz has described, in emotional detail, her final hours.

The widower of the right-to-die advocate, who was a terminal brain cancer patient and died on November 1, 2014, said that on her last day she suffered a seizure and when she returned home she just knew that it was her time, News.com.au reported.

Diaz said that the thing is people don't want to let go of their loved one, but to suggest that she should suffer for him, for anyone is wrong and is what he struggled with.

He added that the seizure that morning was a reminder of what she was risking because what was coming next was losing her eyesight, becoming paralysed and an inability to speak and then she would essentially be trapped in her own body.

He said Maynard had made the plan earlier in the year, shortly after doctors gave her just six months to live and so she decided she wanted to live those six months.

Maynard spent those months travelling with her family, documenting her joy and struggles along the way, but by the time October drew to a close, her condition had deteriorated greatly.

On November 1, after Maynard took a walk outside with her husband, her family, a friend and a dog, she prepared her medication and retreated to the bedroom. She was surrounded by friends and family as the prescribed mixture of sedatives and respiratory system depressants took hold over about 30 minutes.

Diaz concluded that the suffering and the torment and everything she had gone through were finally lifted.
