The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday registered a case against unknown persons in connection with alleged malpractices in the examinations of the National Institute of Open School (NIOS) after the agency received a complaint on July 23 this year from the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD).

The Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of HRD Ministry had complained about the alleged malpractices in Class X and Class XII examinations held last year. After receiving the complaint, the CBI had carried out searches at 26 locations spread across five states and one Union Territory of the country.

The searches were conducted in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Odisha, Assam, Sikkim, and Delhi. At 26 different locations, the premises of NIOS officials, NIOS study centres and private properties were also searched.

During these searches, the CBI had recovered hard disks, computers, answer sheets, fees payment as well as seat planning structure of the examination hall. These items have been recovered from the accused and the places, which were searched.
