Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijender Gupta on Sunday accused the Congress Party of indulging in political stunts to gain mileage out of the water and power crises gripping the national capital.

"This is all political drama, they are just trying to politicize and encash the issue. This is shameful act on the part of the Congress. This is not a political issue, but is a problem. This situation happened because of the natural calamity that struck on May 30 when a storm had hit the city," Gupta said.

" Common people are not with them. People know that this is all political drama, and they are just making fun of themselves," he added.

"I congratulate the union power minister (Piyush Goyal) in trying to resolve the issue, he has almost sorted out the issue, and 95 per cent of Delhi is normal now. There was problem of tower and transmission issues, but very quickly the situation has been taken under control. At many places electricity has been restored," he added.

The BJP leader reminded the people of the city that water and electricty are state subjects, and said the protesters should appreciate Goyal for taking steps to rectify the crises.

Congress workers were seen protesting in the Karol Bagh area of Delhi, burning banners and shouting anti-government slogans.

Congress workers blamed the BJP for misguiding the people of Delhi during the elections, and people were reminded that such a crises had not prevailed during the 15 years of Congress Party rule.

The city has been reeling under long outages for the last 15 days after the electricity transmission networks were severely damaged by the devastating storm on May 30.
