A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the gutting of a church in east Delhi's Dilshad Garden with police reportedly assuring that the security of other churches will be enhanced on Christmas.

Hundreds of protesters on Tuesday raised slogans outside the Delhi Police headquarters after the Catholic church was gutted in a mysterious fire on Monday.

Delhi Archbishop Anil Couto said that the government should provide security to the Christian community so that such an incident doesn't happen in the future.

"We want that government should provide us security and ensure justice for being a minority so, that such incidents do not happen in future," said Couto.

According to media reports, police have registered an arson case on the complaint of the church authorities.

Earlier in October, clashes had erupted between Hindu and Muslims in east Delhi's Trilokpuri area in which at least 35 people, including 13 policemen were injured.
