Even as the Indian national team is gearing up for the defence of its World Cup title, children belonging to underprivileged sections of society on Friday participated in a 'mini World Cup here.
Organised by the Australian and New Zealand High Commissions, the tournament featured two teams each from three NGOs based in the city: Magic Bus, Chintan and the Agha Khan Foundation.
The final was won by Magic Bus, beating Chintan in a thrilling encounter. After winning the tournament, the High Commissioners of Australia and New Zealand, Patrick Suckling and Grahame Morton, presented the trophy to the jubilant winners.
Afterwards, Suckling said cricket is deep in the 'DNA' of India, Australia and New Zealand.
"Cricket is deep in the DNA of India, Australia and New Zealand, and our shared love for the game binds all three nations together," he said.
"On the eve of the ICC World Cup 2015, we are delighted to have the chance to share today some of the excitement that the tournament is bringing with the children of Delhi," Morton added.
The 2015 edition of the World Cup, which is being hosted by Australia and New Zealand, commences on February 14.
