Cloud storage service Dropbox has refuted claims that its systems were breached by hackers, who reportedly stole 7 million usernames and leaked hundreds of passwords online.
The hackers are threatening a major breach in Dropbox security and promising to release more password details if they're paid a Bitcoin ransom, CNET reports.
Dropbox has outright rubbished reports that it has been compromised.
The company claims that the passwords were stolen from third-party services.
A Dropbox spokesperson said that the usernames and passwords were unfortunately stolen from other services and used in attempts to log in to Dropbox accounts, adding that the storage service had previously detected these attacks and the vast majority of the passwords posted have been expired for some time now.
