Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone wants double points awarded for the final three races of the season, according to reports.

According to the Mirror, the FIA announced earlier this month that the final race of the 2014 season in Abu Dhabi will see double points awarded.

The decision has been widely criticised by high-profile names in the sport as well fans across the globe, the report said.

And now Ecclestone has waded into the debate suggesting the controversial measure should be extended to the final three races to keep the championship race alive longer, the report added.

He said that it may well be that the rule is cancelled altogether at the next meeting in January but he thinks it should either be the final three races or nothing.

He added that the final three races would mean that the championship is kept interesting for everyone, fans, press and television, right until the end.
