The fifth batch of Amarnath pilgrims today left for the holy cave shrine situated in the south of Himalayas from Jammu.

The fresh batch of pilgrims this early morning left from the Bhagwati Nagar-based Yatri Niwas in a convoy of 53 vehicles.

The yatris comprised of 1408 males, 362 females, 127 sadhus and 27 sadhvis. 56 vehicles, including LMVs and SRTC buses, carried the devotees to Kashmir Valley.

The pilgrimage from Jammu base camp is going on smoothly since July 1 and batches are leaving for the valley everyday regularly.

The authorities have made elaborate arrangements for boarding and lodging of yatris in Jammu and other parts of the state.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) had earlier this month conducted mock exercises at Baltal and Pahalgam base camps to assess the preparedness and response mechanism of all those involved in management of the Yatra.
