At least four people have been killed and many more injured after a bus carrying 50 passengers fell into a lake in Karnataka on Tuesday.
The accident took place this morning, when the bus carrying mostly school and college students fell into a lake.
The bus driver and conductor survived the crash.
"I came to know that this unfortunate incident has taken place in Belur. One bus has fallen into the lake. I believe that four people have died and some more people are injured. Our transport minister is already on way to the spot and we will take further action and make the announcement," Karnataka Home Minister K. J. George told mediapersons in Bangalore.
While the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, two theories were doing the round - one that the bus skidded off the road as the driver tried to avoid hitting a vehicle and the other that the axle of the bus got snapped.
