The Odisha government on Thursday ordered a probe after 20 people were left injured when an under construction bridge over the Mahanadi River collapsed.

The probe will be undertaken under the supervision of the Engineer-in Chief.

Official sources also said that two engineers have been suspended and strict action will be taken against the construction company.

An under-construction bridge over the river connecting Banki and Athagarh had collapsed on Wednesday night near Jatamundia in Odisha.

As per reports, at least 20 people, including an engineer, were injured in the mishap. The injured were rushed to the Athagarh hospital.

Bipin Swain, a local resident said, "When the incident took place at night we were asleep. We heard a noise which sounded like a bomb blast. We rushed to the spot and noticed that four pillars and five spans of the under construction bridge had collapsed. Around 5 to 7 labourers were injured in the incident. They have been taken to hospitals."

According to sources three persons were shifted to SCB Medical Colleges and Hospital and their condition is said to be critical.
