H'wood, music world pays tribute to legendary musician Tom Petty

Legendary musician and The Heartbreakers front-man Tom Petty passed away at the age of 66 after suffering cardiac arrest.

Hollywood and Music world expressed shock and grief over the news, paying tribute to the rock legend on social media.

Some of the heartfelt tributes are:

Singer John Mayer tweeted, "I loved Tom Petty and I covered his songs because I wanted know what it felt like to fly. You belong somewhere you feel free."

Legendary musician Paul McCartney also expressed grief on Petty's demise, by writing, "Sending love to Tom Petty and his family at this difficult time."

 

"Tom Petty gone? That's just so wrong. What a bad day this has been, in so many ways," tweeted Stephen King.

Actor and singer Kiefer Sutherland also paid tribute to the legendary musician as he wrote, "Today America lost one of its musical giants. Thank you Tom Petty for all the music. To me you will live forever."

Steven Van Zandt, the veteran musician, wrote, "Man this cannot be happening. Not Tom Petty please. Our deepest love and condolences to his family and band. A brother and true believer."

The Heartbreakers front-man was rushed to the hospital Monday morning after he was found unconscious in his Malibu home, and could not be revived, his manager confirmed in a statement.

The statement read, "On behalf of the Tom Petty family we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty. He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.
