Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Haribhau Bagade was on Wednesday elected as the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker.
The result did not come as a surprise after the Shiv Sena and Congress withdrew their nominations for the same, making it easy for Bagade to bag the post.
Earlier today, Shiv Sena candidate Vijay Ahuti withdrew his nomination following party chief Uddhav Thackeray's decision to support the BJP's candidate.
Meanwhile, Congress candidate Varsha Gaikwad also withdrew her nomination after the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) declined to support her.
