President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday urged aspiring Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officers to be 'proactive, innovative and responsive' while dealing with the new challenges that have emerged due to the expansion and transformation of India in recent times.

Addressing IAS probationers at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President said that he was 'glad' to have an opportunity to meet the young officers who will have a 'definitive' role in steering the destiny of the nation.

President Mukherjee further stated that people in the country expected them to deliver and supervise the implementation of programs, advising the officers to carry out their duties by paying special attention to the vulnerable sections of the society.

The 183 IAS probationers, including three officer trainees from the Royal Bhutan Civil Services, were in the national capital to attend training at the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training from February 14 to 20.
