The Islami Chhatra Sena, the student wing of the Bangladesh Islami Front, has called a country-wide half-day shutdown for Sunday over a demand for the arrest of the killers of Supreme Court mosque imam Sheikh Nurul Islam Faruqi.
Nurul Haque Chisty, president of the organisation, announced that they would enforce the general strike from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The Chhatra Sena leader made the announcement at a press briefing at its central office in the capital's Fakirapul around 3.30 p.m.
Confirming the hartal, Chisty told The Daily Star that they will stage demonstrations today in support of the hartal.
Unidentified assailants slit the throat of Faruki, a presidium member of the Islami Front and a presenter of Islamic programmes in two private television channels at his East Rajabazar house in the capital on Wednesday night.
