Mahavir Jayanti, the birth anniversary of 24th and last Jain Tirthankar Bhagwan Mahavir is being celebrated across the country today.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted the nation on the occasion.

"Greetings and good wishes on Mahavir Jayanti to all my fellow citizens and in particular, members of Jain community. Teachings of ahimsa, truth and compassion enunciated by Bhagwan Mahavira hold great significance for today's world. Let us resolve to ceaselessly strive for harmony and amity in our country and across the world on this auspicious day," the President tweeted.

In his message, Vice President Hamid Ansari said that Bhagwan Mahavir's message of truth, non-violence and compassion shows an enlightened path for happiness and progress of humanity.

 

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, he bows to the venerable Lord Mahavir, who showed the path of peace and welfare for entire humanity.

"On Mahavir Jayanti I bow to the venerable Lord Mahavir, who showed the path of peace and welfare for entire humanity," he tweeted.
