U.S. tennis legend John McEnroe has told Britain number one Andy Murray to take a break from the sport because the Scot looks on the verge of burnout.
However, McEnroe also believes that Murray's coaching partnership with former French tennis ace Amelie Mauresmo is not a roaring success after his season ended with a thrashing from 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer.
The Scot won three titles in six weeks to qualify for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals and would finish 2014 as world number six after losing two of his three matches there, The Mirror reported.
Murray has failed to beat any of the top three -Novak Djokovic, Federer and Rafael Nadal- this season.
McEnroe said that there is clearly a gap there, adding that part of it is what has happened leading up to it. He said that Murray has played too much and is on the verge of burnout.
Murray had planned a holiday, but may now return straight to the practice court.
McEnroe said that if he were the Scot's coach, he would definitely take a break, adding that Murray a break.
