Northern Irish golf ace Rory McIlroy shot a three-under-par 67 but dropped two strokes on his final three holes to settle for a three-way lead with Gary Woodland and Jordan Spieth in the BMW Championship in Denver.
McIlroy hit bogeys on 15th and 16th holes that saw him surrender a two-shot lead to be left in a three-way tie at three under par. The Northern Irishman is bidding to reclaim the lead in the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup ahead of next week's finale.
McIlroy shared the early clubhouse lead with US Ryder Cup player Spieth and compatriot Woodland. They led a group of players on two under par, including European Ryder Cup team member Martin Kaymer, The BBC reported.
England's Justin Rose shot a one-under-par 69 with US Ryder Cup players Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk finishing even par.
The top 70 players on the FedEx Cup points list after the Deutsche Bank Championship qualified for this week's event at Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver and only the top 30 players will advance to the Tour Championship finale in Atlanta, which begins on 11 September, the report added.
