An American football team is reportedly being sued by their cheerleaders for allegedly paying them just five dollars an hour.

Struggling National Football League (NFL) side Oakland Raiders are being taken to court by a number of their cheerleaders, who are called the Raiderettes.

According to the Mirror, the Raiderettes claimed that they are paid a total of 1,250 dollars a year and yet are expected to turn out for approximately 300 events, pay for their own make-up and are fined if forget to bring the right coloured pom poms to practice.

The group is bringing an unfair pay practices class action and their attorney claims that the Raiderettes are owed tens of thousands of dollars.
