No doubt that India is under terrorist threat: Lt. Gen. Raj Kadyan

Reacting to a letter delivered to a Tamil daily, threatening to launch an attack somewhere in India similar to that launched on the Paris-based satire magazine Charlie Hebdo, defence expert and former deputy chief of army staff, Lieutenant General (retired) Raj Kadyan, said on Wednesday that there was no doubt in his mid that the country faces threats from terror outfits.

"The threat to the Tamil newspaper [has come from] an organisation calling itself the 'Base Moment', stating that it owes allegiance to al-Qaeda. Security measures must investigate this threat and take preventive measures against the organisation, if necessary," Lt Gen Kadyan told ANI.

 

"This may also be a diversion. However, the fact that we are under terrorist threat is not in doubt," he added.

On Tuesday, Tamil newspaper Dinamalar received a letter, with the writer threatening to carry out an attack similar to the Charlie Hebdo massacre, which had left 14 people dead, including two police officers.

According to reports, the letter, which was written in English, said, "Yesterday-Paris Charlie Hebdo, Tomorrow - Dinamalar.
