NRIs may soon be allowed to vote without being physically present in constituencies

Close on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to NRIs for greater participation in Indian governance, a landmark change is possibly on anvil for the election process.

The Supreme Court will hear a petition on this issue on November 14, 2014 which has been filed by a Pravasi Bharat organization.

The apex court is expected to take into account a recent report by the Election Commission which recommends that as per existing laws, other than being only physically present to vote, other avenues like E-Ballots and proxy voting can also be explored.

Any ruling by the Supreme Court is likely to impact our democratic process and will make big news.
