The Australian media has hailed Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as a rare and sublime example of a sportsman who satisfied the aesthete and the anorak, claiming that he would be remembered for his style of play as much as the statistics.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Sachin was invulnerable to temptation, outside the off stump, the law or the moral code.

In his middle years, he was supreme, memorably matching wits all day with Shane Warne at the MCG, the report said.

The report hailed the master blaster for scoring a century against England at 17, after starting to play Test cricket at 16 and making two centuries against Australia at 18.
