Taking to their official Twitter handle, the club wrote, "We are assisting Leicestershire Police and the emergency services in dealing with a major incident at King Power Stadium. The Club will issue a more detailed statement once further information has been established."

Expressing grief over the incident, the Mayor of Leicester City took to Twitter and offered condolences to the club owners.

"Dreadful news from @LCFC #KingPower Thoughts and prayers with all - particularly owners who've done so much for Club and our City #Leicester," he tweeted.
