The mayor of Philippines' General Tinio town, Ferdinand Bote was shot dead on Tuesday in broad daylight by unknown assailants in Cabanatuan City.

According to CNN, the mayor was travelling in a Toyota Fortuner when motorcycle-borne assailants open fired on him.

Bote was taken to MV Gallego hospital, where he was declared dead.

An investigation is underway.

The spokesperson for President Rodrigo Duterte, Harry Roque said, "We assure everyone that we would discharge the state obligation for every murder. We will spare no effort in getting to the bottom of this latest violent crime."

This comes a day after the Mayor of Tanauan City Antonio Halili was shot dead by a single sniper shot to the chest from an unknown assailant at a flag-raising ceremony at the Tanauan City Hall.

Halili had controversially paraded suspects arrested for drug offences.

He was taken to the Reyes Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead.

It is unclear as of now if the two killings are connected.
