Sensex, Nifty open flat; ITC, Coal India laggards

The market on Thursday opened flat. The Sensex gained 23.53 points in the early trade at 27059.38. Nifty, on the other hand, maintained its position on 8170.45 levels with a grace of 6.95 points.

Vedanta, Cipla, ONGC, M and M and Lupin played as the top gainers, while ICICI Bank, SBI, Coal India, HDFC and ITC traded with weakness.

The Indian rupee opened lower by 5 paise at 65.03 per dollar on Thursday against previous close of 64.98. Yesterday, the rupee touched an eight-week high of 64.95.
