Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday was cautiously optimistic about the Chinese Army seeking flag meetings, but also reminded that India has the strength to defeat the Chinese if such a situation arises.
"They want to talk, that's a good sign. India has already made it clear that they will not withdraw unless China agrees to withdraw at the same time or even before. We are two big nations together we constitute 40 percent of world's population or nearly that. We are neighbours, we have special responsibility to be on good terms," Swamy told ANI here while responding on the Chinese Army seeking a flag meeting with their Indian counterpart.
"We both have common problems now, including terrorism from Pakistan so we have to work that out... So the two of us working together is a very good thing for Asian peace, we should try that," he said.
The BJP leader also reminded that India has the wherewithal to take on the Chinese threat.
"But we should have self-confidence that we can defeat the Chinese if necessary and the Chinese should also understand that we are not in Jawaharlal Nehru's period, where we are all bunch of confused people who did not prepare the Army. The Indian Army today is probably the third largest in the world and in terms of its ability and courage we are ready to make any sacrifice for the sake of motherland," he added.
The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) on Tuesday expressed interest to hold a flag meeting with the Indian Army, even as the stand-off at Chumar in Ladakh between both sides has been continuing for the last ten days.
The last two flag meetings had made no progress in resolving the crisis.
