Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said that his government would bring law to award death penalty to rapists of minor girls.

Rawat announced this during the ongoing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state working committee meeting in Kashipur.

Four other states- Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh have already approved the provision of capital punishment for those convicted of raping girls below the age of 12 years.

The Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2018, which provides stringent punishment for those convicted of raping girls below the age of 12 years, will be introduced in the monsoon session of Parliament beginning July 18.
