South Korea and the United States on Saturday agreed to "stay unified" and work together for achieving denuclearisation in the Korean Peninsula, despite North Korea's relentless nuclear tests.

According to Yonhap news agency, in a meeting between South Korean Vice-Defence Minister Suh Choo-suk and U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defence Pat Shanahan, both leaders promised to maintain strict vigilance over North Korea's persistent nuclear programme.

"The leaders reaffirmed the ironclad nature of the alliance, and the importance of maintaining vigilance and unity in the face of North Korean aggression," a Pentagon statement said.

The ministers of both the countries discussed the preparations for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, as well as the ongoing military talks between the two Koreas.

The Winter Olympics is scheduled to take place at South Korea's Pyeongchang county between February 9-25.
